Have any tips for how to set up mentoring programs? Possible scenarios include student to student, alumni or industrial professional to student, graduate student to undergraduate student, professor to student, etc.

Choose Your Mentor in 30 Minutes

Carleton University's Women in Science and Engineering wants to implement a mentoring program and has this idea (it is not yet tested). After having potential mentors and mentees fill out forms that include their goals for the program and their interests, we'd like to host a "wine and cheese" afternoon where everyone gets to meet each other in person. Those running the program could match a mentee to three potential mentors based on their forms. The mentee gets to talk to each mentor for, say, five minutes. It would be a bit like speed dating, with a nice atmosphere and something light to eat.
